Student Spaces

Sprout Classroom

Our Sprout classroom serves children ages 2 ½-4 who are potty trained.  This is typically a child’s first preschool experience and a major focus at this age is the child’s independence, developing the capacity to share, social skills and the use of imaginative play.  A child may spend one or two years in the classroom depending upon their age, available space, social, emotional, behavioral and academic readiness.

Acorn Classroom

The Acorn Classroom serves children ages 4-5 and those using 4K wraparound care.  The major focus is on kindergarten readiness through a play based curriculum.  A child may spend one or two years in the Acorn room depending upon age.

Kids United Classroom

Children ages 5-10 are in our Kids United Classroom.  This program offers before and after school and a full day summer program.  A play based curriculum offers a chance for recreation and relaxation after school and on no school days.

4K Detective and Explorer Classrooms

The 4K Detective and Explorer classrooms are school district sponsored 4K rooms.  The curriculum in these classrooms is provided by the Fort Atkinson School District and include Everyday Math and a literacy curriculum.  Students in these classrooms will move into kindergarten the following year.

Gym

On cold, rainy or too hot days we have a gym full of gross motor equipment for students to enjoy.  Our preschool students participate in a minimum of one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon of either outdoor or indoor gross motor play daily.  4K and school age children have daily gross motor time as well.

Zen Den

Through a grant from United of Way of Jefferson and North Walworth counties Fort Atkinson Preschool and Childcare has been able to construct an emotional regulation space (the Zen Den) where children can go to learn about and deal with their emotions in a positive way. The equipment in the room was recommended by child psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists and early childhood teachers with whom the preschool consults.  The Zen Den is also used by the therapists from Fort Atkinson School District as an area where they can work with children who need occupational, physical, speech or early childhood services.

Playground

Fort Atkinson Preschool and Childcare has a fully fenced playground that includes bikes, scooters, sand and rock boxes, a music wall, basketball hoop, tether ball, climbing dinosaurs and a wide variety of gross motor toys such as balls, balance beams, large building blocks, dramatic play, etc…  Students participate in outdoor play daily unless the windchill is below 10 degrees F or the heat index is above 90 degrees F.  In addition to  playground play students frequently walk to local parks to experience larger climbing equipment when the weather is warm.
